A team of 27 students of Manipal University, SolarMObil has developed a Solar Electric Road Vehicle - SERVe. This car runs solely on Solar power and was unveiled at Tata Power Solar Headquarters on April 22, 2015.
The car has the maximum speed of 60 kmph and has a battery energy storage of 6.5 kWH. Weighing 590 kg, the car can run upto 150 km when once fully charged. The car has custom fitted Solar Panels on the top, which were designed and manufactured by Tata Power Solar.
The total estimated cost for the production of this car will be around 25 lakh, which were sponsred by Agni Motors, Coca-Cola and Element14. The body of this car has been made of Glass Fibre Plastic and suspension has been tested for Indian Roads.
Such new developments by the college students is an inspiration for others to think new and do something creative, The project started in 2012 and was successfully completed in 2015.
