After getting knocked out in the semi finals against Australia, India still retains the no.2 spot in the ICC Rankings. With 116 points India sits on the position following only the world champions Australia with 122 points. India is then followed by one of the best talents of this world cup South Africa with 112 points and then Sri Lanka and New Zealand.
The ICC rankings are a quite widely followed system of rankings which ranks not only teams but also the players on the basis of their performances in batting or bowling. Initially there were only Test Rankings for the team but later on ODI ICC Ranking and T-20 ICC Rankings came into being.
Currently 3 Indian batsman namely Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan and Indian captain Mahendra SIngh Dhoni have booked a spot in the top 10 table for ODI batsmen. While Kohli is the highest ranked of them Dhawan and Dhoni follow at no. 6 and and 8 respectively.
Although no indian bowler could earn a place in the top 10 ODI bowlers table which puts Australia's Mitchell Starc at no.1. India on position 2 can still gain a leap over the mighty Australians by performing well in the coming tours after the IPL.
