Microsoft has announced the launch of the Office Universal Apps Preview for Windows 10 Preview. This news comes after the release of Microsoft's Universal Office Apps for Tablets, Laptops and Desktops as a part of the Windows 10 Technical Preview Program. Following the release for Windows 10 phone, Microsoft is completing its Office for Windows line-up.

The Universal Office apps includes Word, Excel and PowerPoint which are meant to show a new Touch Friendly version. Both Tablet and Smartphone users will be able to view and edit documents across Office apps on their Windows devices using OneDrive Cloud integration. All the Office Universal Apps shares the same code base but differs in User Interface depending on device being used. These apps for Windows Phones will be more akin to the Office Apps for iPhones and Android Phones as confirmed by company officials.

Jared Spataro, General Manager of Microsoft Office, said there will be more preview builds  available to testers in the coming months. He also said that the new Universal Apps will work on a "freemium" model, providing capabilities for free, but also encouraging users to move to an Office 365 subscription to unlock all the features. Microsoft has been working on cross-compatibility of apps even before releasing Windows 8, and now it looks like that dream will finally be realized with Windows 10. Think of Windows 10 as a centerpiece of a completely unified Windows platform.
