Rs11 Lakh to Sleep - NASA

NASA pays to sleep

Are you healthy enough to sleep for 3 months? If your answer is yes, then it’s time to pack your bags and send your ‘sleep resume’ to NASA. The US Space agency is offering a pay of Rs 11 lakhs for a study which is aimed to understand the surviving conditions of astronauts who have to travel to space for long periods.

According to NASA, “"Head down bed rest is a good way to mimic a person travelling in space without gravity. This study will show how much your body, tilted down slightly with head down and feet up, for 70 days, 24-hours a day, without getting out of bed, except for limited times for specific tests, is like an astronaut's body during the weightlessness of space flight".

The study requires participants divided into 2 categories- exercising and non- exercising. For the first 2-3 weeks, they will be free to do normal things and move around in the facility in which they will be enclosed for bed rest. In the next phase, for 70-days the participants will be made to lie down in beds with their head down and feet up, body slightly twisted. They believe that lying down in this position helps in studying the changes that are brought about in a human body when travelling without gravity.

With this experiment, scientists hope to understand the changes in an astronaut’s body when it is experiencing weightlessness. As a part of the final phase, in the last 14 days, they would again be free to move around in their bed rest facility.

NASA is hence looking for US citizens who will be undergoing tough tests to match the fitness level of astronauts. If you have the resume, then Rs 11 Lakhs is waiting for you at their counter.
